While laughing, a patient once joked, "Why didn't anyone tell me I'd change so much after pregnancy?". This speaks to the need to reclaim one's pre-pregnancy self and address the significant changes that come with motherhood. We could call this combination of procedures a "transformer." Whether lifting, reducing, or restoring lost volume—these are all part of the breast operations involved in this procedure. When combined with abdominoplasty, we're tackling the most common post-pregnancy changes. Restoring self-confidence, not just appearance, is the ultimate goal of this makeover.

What is a Mommy makeover?

While being a mother is an extraordinarily wonderful experience, a woman's body must undergo significant changes in order to accommodate and nourish the baby. Many times, diet and exercise alone won't be enough to reverse these changes. It's common for several bodily areas to be impacted, therefore you may wish to get surgery to change them all.

The goal of the mommy makeover is to help women regain their pre-pregnancy bodies by correcting sagging breasts, loose skin on the abdomen, along with other imperfections. Women who have given birth to many children or who have had multiple pregnancies may find this surgery particularly beneficial.

How pregnancy affects your body

Your body prepares for carrying, guarding, delivering, and feeding the baby during pregnancy. Your organs and tissues are impacted by several complex physiological processes. Your body shapes shift as a result.

- Breasts
Hormones stimulate the growth of glandular tissue and the blood flow to the breasts. Your breasts get larger and firmer as a result. Your body gets ready to feed the baby in this way. Your breasts will start to resemble their former form after you've breastfed your child. But most of the time, the skin on the breasts stretches, making the bust sag.

- Abdominal muscles
The abdomen expands to provide the baby adequate room to grow. The condition known as diastasis recti, or separated abdominal muscles, is brought on by hormonal changes in the connective tissue, mechanical strain on the abdominal wall, and displacement of the inner organs. To put it another way, there is greater space between your left and right abdominal muscles. After delivery, it can sometimes remain and form a belly bulge.

- Skin
Throughout pregnancy, your entire body changes, and this also applies to your skin. Acne, varicose veins, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks could appear. Furthermore, because your belly is growing quickly, your skin needs to stretch significantly. Your waistline rapidly shrinks after birth. The skin in this area becomes sagging and loose as a result. Rapid weight loss might also have an impact on other body parts.

What is included in mommy makeover?

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and breast augmentation are common procedures included in mommy makeovers. If necessary, it can also involve intimate surgery or liposuction. The choice of a mommy makeover is highly personal and differs for each patient. Depending on the outcomes you want, you can mix and match these procedures:

  • Saggy breasts look better after a breast lift. During this treatment, the size of the areolas and the position of the nipples can also be changed.
  • Breast augmentation allows an individual to use breast implants to enlarge one's breasts.
  • Various body parts can have their stubborn fat deposits removed by liposuction. Wet and laser liposuction are the two available techniques.
  • The goal of an abdominoplasty, often known as a tummy tuck, is to tighten the muscles and remove extra skin from the abdomen. The size of the problematic area will determine whether the surgeon recommends a full or mini tummy tuck.
  • Thigh or arm lift. Your thighs or upper arms are operated to remove hanging skin and fat tissue.
  • Vaginal rejuvenation, labia, or clitoris correction are varieties of intimate surgery.

Final results and scarring

In most cases, the patient must wait at least six months before seeing the result, and scars may become less noticeable approximately two years after surgery. Following a surgical incision, scarring is normal and inevitable. Your surgeon will, however, take care to minimise the visibility of the scars. The incisions are typically done in skin creases where they are readily hidden by underwear. Furthermore, after your wounds have fully healed, you can frequently apply a specialised scar treatment ointment to your scars. Scarring process will depend on your body's healing process and on how well you comply with postoperative guidelines.

Why choose a mommy makeover?

The mommy makeover carries a slightly higher risk of complications. Instead of undergoing several surgeries and requiring prolonged recovery, a lot of patients decide to accept the risk. However, you will be able to appreciate your new body and see the outcomes much faster. Not to mention, paying for multiple operations combined is less expensive than paying for each intervention separately.

All women who may feel self-conscious about excess skin, sagging breasts, or other post-pregnancy imperfections should consider a mommy makeover. Regaining self-confidence can be achieved in an easy, safe, and reasonably priced manner. During a meeting with your surgeon, your specific preparation plan will be reviewed and all of your questions will be addressed.

Recovery

  • You may require painkillers and other medications after surgery; these will be provided or recommended by the clinic. In rare circumstances, a postoperative drain may be placed to temporarily collect any extra fluid that may accumulate in the area of surgery. The surgeon will see you for at least two check-ups to monitor the healing process and to teach you how to take care of drain and postoperative wounds. It will also be recommended that you take regular walks to prevent problems caused by blood clotting. As proper clothing is crucial for smooth wound healing, a complimentary pair of supportive garments will also be given to you.
  • The precise operations you choose to have will largely determine how long it takes to recover. The recovery from a tummy tuck typically takes the longest. After the procedure, you should be able to resume most of your regular activities in three to four weeks. While liposuction takes only a week to recover from, breast enhancement operations take two to three weeks. After a mommy makeover, be prepared to deal with some pain, swelling, and bruises for a few weeks. This is the body's typical reaction to a surgical intervention, and it is perfectly normal.
  • Remember that in order for your body to heal properly after surgery, you should avoid doing any intense exercise or other physical activity for at least eight weeks. Additionally, you should be mindful that postoperative difficulties may arise from carrying heavy weights (greater than 5 kg, or around 11 pounds). If your child still has to be lifted and carried around, this is something to consider.
  • Planning a pregnancy after the mommy makeover is not advised, as it is intended to address the physical changes brought on by having children. Moreover, bear in mind that following a breast augmentation treatment, your ability to breastfeed may change. Nonetheless, as breastfeeding would probably affect the outcome, you shouldn't intend to do so following the procedure.

Is mommy makeover safe?

You may be concerned about the procedure's safety because it involves multiple surgical procedures. The risk associated with a mommy makeover is similar to that of any operation, but it is somewhat higher compared to the risk of undergoing the same treatments (breast enlargement, tummy tuck, etc.) individually. It is primarily associated with an extended period of anesthesia. However, the risk can be reduced and the mommy makeover can be regarded as safe because of the expertise of our professionals and your cooperation. Nevertheless, it is advised that you have suitable health insurance for your own comfort.
